Subvertisements

The below are provided for entertainment and educational purposes only. Note that we in no way encourage the defacement of public spaces or private property, and we bear no responsibility if these find their way onto sticker paper and are posted around your city. That said, you're welcome to open the large versions and right-click-and-save them and then do with them as you like. Whatever you do with them is your responsibility, though.

New! GAP anti-sweatshop flyers!

GAP (and Old Navy, among many companies) use sweatshop labor to make their clothes. While they often defend themselves in a number of ways, including insisting that they sub-contract their work out and have nothing to do with the factories, or that "Hey, at least those poor folks have jobs; they're better off than before," the fact is that they are encouraging and supporting unfair trade practices and working conditions. This has to stop. By all means, employ workers in 3rd World Countries. Just pay them a fair wage and treat them like humans, not like slaves.

No one is telling you not to buy GAP, but you should be aware of how those clothes are made.
Please, if you like GAP clothing, contact them and ask that they stop these practices.

Or, next time you go to the mall, drop off some information for the masses.
Click for a large, high-quality JPG formatted to print several of these per each 8.5x11 sheet.

50 cents off at GAP

We employ sweatshop labor. Workers earn as little as $30 a month, are denied restroom breaks, and labor in unsafe, unsanitary conditions in Mexico, Bangladesh, Indonesia, & El Salvador. They are often abused, work unpaid overtime, and may be fired or harmed if they try to organize or ask for better conditions. All so we can sell you garments for about 50 cents less than they would cost if made in responsible
conditions. Learn more at http://www..behindthelabel.org

GAP is hiring!

If you like our clothes, you'll really love working for
us. As a worker at a GAP factory, you'll enjoy great
benefits, including:

A monthly salary of $30, or half your monthly
costs to feed your family and pay for basic needs.
Constant verbal & physical abuse from supervisors.
Prison-like conditions and regular body searches.
Double time-sheets, one indicating wages you will
never receive, to be shown to GAP officials so
they will believe you are being paid fairly.
1 minute bathroom breaks, twice per day.
Average of 13 unpaid overtime hours per weeks.

Disgusted yet? You should be! Let GAP know that their efforts to provide responsible clothing aren't working. Visit behindthelabel.org and sweatshopwatch.org for more information on these and other abuses and to learn what you can do to help end sweatshop labor.

CurbItKarl
This looks a lot like the AdBuster's CurbIt campaign, and features Utah Jazz player Karl Malone.
CurbItJesus
This looks a lot like the AdBuster's CurbIt campaign, and features the Jesus statue known to all members of the LDS faith and anyone who has ever visited the Temple Square.

WWJB?
Just in time for Buy Nothing Day, and that holiest of all that is Holy in the mall, the Christmas Shopping Season.

As they say, "Jesus saves," and He does so by Not Shopping.

VISA Ads
A nifty reminder about your mental environment. The 5th one seems to be specially designed for Salt Lake City, as the original ad reads something like, "For 3 weeks we doubled your population; you forever doubled out spirits," in response to the Olympics.

Consumption Will Fill the Void
That says it all.

Fast Food Sucks!
Well, it may not be worth a lawsuit, but there's no denying that that fast food crap is awful for you and it tastes like hell. Support a locally-owned place, eat some really good ethnic food, or just make a PB&J or something.

Just for fun...
These are just for fun. They don't mean anything, they're just art for art's sake, or weirdness for weirdness' sake. You can't be serious all the time!

Again, we're not encouraging you to do anything stupid or illegal. Hell, we don't even like other people's ads in our heads, so why would we want these filling people's heads with these kinds of confusing and subversive thoughts?
