Steam Engines
Golden Spike National Historic Site, UT
June 12, 2005

Anthony, Jena, Jimmy, Paul, and I drove out to Golden Spike park and arrived just in time to see the steam train demonstrations. Two replicas, one run on coal and one on wood, choo-choo'd across the plain for our amusement. (Later, we visited an old jetty left from oil exploration of the 1920s, and the Spiral Jetty, and I saw some flowers.)

The Jupiter runs on wood, which you can see stacked up in the back.

The No. 119 runs on coal.

Various parts of the No. 119:

Some close-ups from the Jupiter.

The spike itself is gone -- I think it's on display back east somewhere -- but this plaque is in its place.
